Conservation meets adventure.
‘I’m not going to pretend I’ve hiked Mount Everest, because I haven’t. Forager is about embracing and celebrating the outdoors in a way that feels authentic and accessible to everyone.’
c/o - Since fully embracing the concept of Island Life and moving to the Emerald Isle I’ve had a chance to immerse myself in nature. It’s a pleasure to get outside and be amongst the weather and landscape and explore. It’s also a pleasure to explore the aesthetics of the adventure. I had the pleasure to chat to Martin from Forager Provisions and get to know the outdoor inspired store a little better.
Martin - I spent over 10 years working in fashion retail, but this year became a turning point for me. I realised that a big part of the industry no longer aligned with my interests or values. I've always had a deep appreciation for nature, the great outdoors, and a passion for caring about animals. Forager Provisions is a venture that truly reflects my love for the natural world.
Bandit Bandanas - Due North
My vision for Forager Provisions is to create a welcoming community and online shop for everyone. While many premium "hiking" stores focus heavily on camping, and adventure lifestyles, I recognise that not everyone has the time or resources to constantly pursue those activities. Too often, these stores evolve into high-end brands, creating an exclusive image that I don’t align with or want to replicate.
Forager Provisions is about simplicity and inclusivity. No matter your level of "outsider," you’re welcome here. I’m not going to pretend I’ve hiked Mount Everest, because I haven’t. Instead, Forager is about embracing and celebrating the outdoors in a way that feels authentic and accessible to everyone.
Northern Icon Creations Weekend Hooker Pompom Beanie – Brown Trout
I’m currently based in Norfolk, and I have to admit that North Norfolk is absolutely stunning—it’s a place of real beauty. That said, I draw a lot of my inspiration from places like the Lake District and Yorkshire, which, to me, feel almost otherworldly for the UK. Eventually, I hope to make it up to Scotland to explore its breathtaking landscapes as well.
Emalco Enamelware 22oz Olympic National Park Mug
One of my dreams is to visit a National Park, but I haven’t had the finances to make it happen just yet—my business always comes first. For now, I channel that dream into Forager Provisions, creating something that reflects my love for nature and the outdoors while remaining accessible to everyone.
Having worked with American and Japanese brands for most of my career, I naturally gravitate toward their aesthetics and approach. I find British outdoor and countryside brands tend to lean heavily into a more classic, “hunting” vibe, which doesn’t align with my style or vision.
Smokey Bear Carabiner Handle Mug
I’m also a huge fan of Smokey Bear, National Parks, and the iconic imagery they represent—it’s such a quintessentially American concept that blends conservation with adventure in a way that feels fresh and inspiring. That influence plays a big role in shaping Forager Provisions, bringing a more modern and accessible take on the outdoors.
Weird Walk Zine Issue 6
Weird Walk though is just undeniably cool. We have some incredible monuments here in the UK, and the folklore-inspired style in their illustrations and fonts is so timeless—it just looks and feels right. Beyond the aesthetic, what really stands out is the community surrounding Weird Walk. They come across as genuinely lovely and authentic, which is something I’ve realised I’ve really missed being part of. It’s more than just a zine; it’s a connection to something deeper and more meaningful.
Paine’s Balsam Fir Premium Incense Cones
Scent, to me, is deeply tied to nostalgia. It has the power to transport you back to a moment in time—a trail you walked, a day out in nature, or even a simple drive—bringing back memories of a period that might have felt simpler or happier. The scent of nature, in particular, is incredibly grounding. It reconnects us to the earth and offers a sense of calm, which is so important for mental health. Even in tough times, being surrounded by those natural scents reminds you that time moves forward, offering a sense of renewal and perspective.
I’ve had the privilege of working on several collaborations, but for me, it’s essential that they feel authentic and align with my high standards, including shared rights and values. I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve made mistakes in the past, including errors in judgment when it comes to partnerships. Those experiences have shaped how I approach collaborations now.
With Forager Provisions, the focus is on working together with like-minded people and genuinely enjoying the process. I prefer to collaborate with smaller businesses that share my values, as it creates a more meaningful and mutually supportive relationship. Authenticity and a shared vision are what truly make a partnership worthwhile.
